In a significant move to strengthen the foundations of community sport, the Queensland Government has launched Sport Hub Queensland (Sport HQ), a new online resource for the state's thousands of sporting and racing clubs. Unveiled in December 2025, this free and accessible platform serves as a centralised digital hub, providing practical tools and expert guidance to the volunteers, parents, coaches, and committee members who are the lifeblood of grassroots sport.[1][2]

The timing of this initiative is crucial. Queensland is entering a decade of major opportunity in sport and active recreation, and the focus is on building strong, sustainable clubs that can create a lasting legacy for every community. Sport HQ is a key initiative in the Crisafulli Government's plan for Queensland's future, designed to work in concert with the new 10-year Queensland Sport Strategy, which is set to be released in early 2026.[2][3][4]

This platform is more than just a website; it is a practical playbook for success in a period of rapid growth and change. It aims to improve efficiency, streamline administration, and build the capability of clubs, regardless of their size or location, so they can focus on fostering participation, developing athletes, and building vibrant local communities.[3]

What is Sport HQ?

Sport Hub Queensland (Sport HQ) is a free, accessible online hub designed to help strengthen sport and racing organisations across the state. It acts as a centralised, future-focused platform, delivering a growing suite of easy-to-use tools, practical templates, step-by-step guides, and short instructional videos that address real-world club challenges.[1][2]

The core principle behind Sport HQ is to help clubs work smarter, not harder, by supporting key areas such as governance, finance, volunteer management, participation, athlete pathways, and long-term planning. By providing ready-to-use solutions and expert insights, it helps save precious volunteer time, builds confidence among club leaders, and prepares organisations for the opportunities of the next decade.[3]

Whether a club is small or large, new or well-established, Sport HQ is designed to support leaders to act with confidence, with new tools and content being rolled out as Queensland's sport and racing system evolves.[1][2]

Who It's For

Sport HQ has been developed with the entire club ecosystem in mind, offering tailored resources that make every role easier and more effective. Here is a practical look at what different members of your club can do on the hub right now.

Club Committee Members & Leaders

For those steering the organisation, Sport HQ provides tools to strengthen the club's foundations and streamline administrative processes. It helps build confidence in governance, financial management, and strategic planning with short, practical resources.

In the next 3–6 months, committee members can:

Volunteers & Coaches

The hub is designed to support the "local legends" on the ground, providing resources that make their roles easier so they can focus on coaching, mentoring, and building community connections.[2]

In the next 3–6 months, volunteers and coaches can:

Athletes & Parents

For athletes and their families, Sport HQ offers transparency and insight into the systems that support their sporting journey, explaining how well-run clubs create safe and positive environments.[3]

In the next 3–6 months, athletes and parents can:

Racing Clubs & Participants

Recognising the unique operational needs of the racing industry, Sport HQ provides a dedicated stream of resources tailored to support thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound racing clubs.[6]

In the next 3–6 months, racing club administrators can:

Grants & the Funding Runway

A key benefit of Sport HQ is its role in helping clubs become "fund-ready" by lifting governance, capability, and operational efficiency to the standard funders expect. Well-run clubs are better positioned to apply for programs such as the Active Industry Project Fund and related Active Industry funding streams.[7][8]

Sport HQ is a partner in preparation, not a replacement for official grant guidelines, and clubs are still expected to read and follow the specific rules for any program they apply to. The platform's checklists and templates simply make it easier to meet common eligibility and accountability requirements.[7]

✅ Grant Readiness Checklist

Use this checklist based on standard eligibility criteria to see where your club stands:[7]

By using the governance and financial templates on Sport HQ, clubs can proactively address these requirements and be ready when the next funding round opens.

Stronger Clubs, Stronger Queensland

Queensland's new sport strategy work has highlighted a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a more active, connected state built on strong local clubs. The aim is not just to deliver major events, but to build a lasting legacy that cements the state as a leader in Australian sport for generations to come, starting in local communities rather than only in major venues.[4][9]

The vision for Sport HQ has been shaped by statewide consultation on the 10-year strategy, guided by the discussion paper "What does 2032 mean to you?". That process drew nearly 2,000 survey responses, close to 100 written submissions, and hundreds of participants at community forums, with key themes including improved health and wellbeing, more accessible and vibrant clubs, and attracting more volunteers.[9][4]

Every time a club runs smoothly, welcomes a new member, or supports a volunteer, it contributes directly to Queensland's sporting future, and Sport HQ is designed to connect that everyday work to the bigger picture. The hub focuses on:

"Sport HQ will support the local legends that power sport and racing in Queensland… Improving efficiency within our clubs will streamline their administrative processes, allowing them to focus on the young Queenslanders who will learn to love sport at their clubs."

— The Hon. Tim Mander, Minister for Sport and Racing[2]
