About Water Tanks Celebration Mural

Artists: Tanya Kirkegaard, Cheryl Moggs, Karlene Duncan & Ian McCallum This mural aimed to engage and inspire Indigenous community artists from both the Bigambul and Kamilaroi people in celebration of NAIDOC week and in response to the ‘Connecting Country and People’ project. The word ‘Goondiwindi’ is believed to stem from the Aboriginal word ‘Goonawinna’ and translates as ‘the resting place of the birds’. This mural - and many other artworks in the town - depicts Goondiwindi’s special relationship with birdlife through the brolga, emu, totem and waterhole.
