About Tijou Reef Dive Site
Tijou Reef is located at the southern end of the Far Northern Reefs, so is often the first or last dive site explored on an expedition to this remote area. The sheltered western side of Tijou Reef is dotted with coral bommies and coral gardens that offer wonderful diving in depths to 30 metres! The bommies in particular are spectacular, covered in pretty corals and often swarming with schools of snapper and trevally. Many reef sharks and turtles are also seen in this area, but the best shark action is found at the northern tip of Tijou Reef. This site, known as Shark City, is a magic wall dive where pelagic fish and sharks gather. Barracuda, trevally, mackerel, tuna, grey reef sharks and whitetip reef sharks constantly patrol this wall, and divers often get buzzed by larger silvertip sharks.
