About The Slab Hut Art and Craft Gallery
The Slab Hut is a unique art and craft venue in John Scott Park, Samford, just north of Brisbane. Gum tree slab walls and Yellow Gum floorboards are complemented by the 'adze' work in the ceiling and rafters - a tribute to traditional timber-workers' skills. A high pitched roof from recycled corrugated iron completes the rustic picture. This reproduction of a slab hut is home to the Samford Art and Craft Association. A varied range of individual works of art and craft is displayed, reflecting the skill diversity of the members, who offer a personalised service. Knitted and crochet pieces are complemented by fashionable 'art to wear' designs in felt and silk. Hand-painted glassware, pottery, turned wooden items, felt-lined boxes in Australian timber, ceramics and pieces for personal adornment made from leather, glass, fabric and paper sit side by side with fine silver and beaded jewellery. The Slab Hut has many distinctive gifts with a strong Australian connection suitable for posting or taking overseas. The Slab Hut opens seven days a week.
