About The Peter Hallinan Mountain Bike Precinct
The Peter Hallinan Mountain Bike Precinct is located on the northern-side of Hinze Dam, 21-kilometres from Surfers Paradise. It's a network of purpose built mountain bike trails constructed and maintained by the Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club. The trails provide a multitude of riding options that can be accessed via the Hinze Dam Information Centre, then a short ride along the top of the dam wall. There's an easy loop called the “Family Loop” which is well signed and located within the centre of all the trails. Heading east takes riders on an undulating section with views of the water. For more of a challenge there is the six-kilometre loop that descends west and provides a challenging climb back out, whether ridden in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. The Hinze Dam Visitor Centre is open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm Sundays and public holidays. It's closed Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day. Hinze Dam Day Use Area on Advancetown Road is open from 6am to 6pm daily. It has car parking, playground, shelters, electric barbecues, drinking water and a lookout over the spillway. Access to the trails can be made from here.
