About Samford Valley Rail Trail

Discover north Brisbane's railway heritage as you cycle the Ferny Grove to Samford Rail Trail, following a former rail corridor that once extended through to Dayboro. Starting from Ferny Grove Railway Station, this scenic ride stretches just over 9 kilometres to Samford Village. Along the way, you'll pass through the peaceful bushland of Samford Conservation Park before emerging into rolling farmland at the base of Camp Mountain. Following the path of the old Dayboro branch line, the trail offers a unique glimpse into the region's past. Stop near the site of the former Camp Mountain station and learn about the 1946 railway derailment, one of Queensland's worst rail disasters, which ultimately led to the closure of the line in 1955. With gentle gradients along much of the former rail corridor, the trail provides an easy and enjoyable ride for most of the journey, before transitioning to quiet rural roads with a few hills as you approach Samford. Be sure to hop off your bike and take your time exploring Samford Village. There are plenty of cafés, local grocers, plant nurseries and more to discover.
