About Mary's Place
Mary's Place in Dalby celebrates the legacy of the renowned local icon Mary Barry. Mary was the owner of the beloved Commercial Hotel which sadly burnt down. Mary was incredibly generous and her incredible contributions to the region she called home, and the everlasting impact she had on everyone she met – locals and visitors alike inspired the tribute to Mary for this newly developed public space. In 2023 this space was officially named 'Mary's Place' with overwhelming support from the Dalby community. Since 1885, the Commercial Hotel has held an important place in Dalby, offering belonging, community, and connection. Near Cunningham Street, you will find an abstract replica of the old hotel bar, a place to sit, relax, connect, and belong, just as the old hotel bar was. The replica bar also features dedicated power points to charge your devices. Mary's famous words 'Happy Days Love' can be found nearby, welcoming you in. Mary's Place offers a space for people to come together, connect, and explore Dalby's CBD. The space features vibrant lighting and greenery, abundance seating areas, a large, sheltered area, and outdoor projector screens for outdoor movies and events. Mary's Place was recently named joint winner of the Minister's Award for Urban Design at the 2025 Queensland Urban Design Awards - designed by Blight Rayner Architecture.
