Thomas Mitchell was the first European to explore the area in 1846, which then led to the area being opened up for settlement. Keeping a watch over Blackall main street, the magnificent memorial clock is dedicated to Major Mitchell, his off-sider Graham Douglas and their Aboriginal interpreter Youranigh.
