About Kingfisher Birding
Kingfisher Birding runs private birding charters from Cairns across Far North Queensland, one of the richest birding regions in Australia. Half of Australia's bird species live in the region, including the 15 Wet Tropics endemics. The business was established in 2026 with support from the Queensland Government. Multi-day expeditions are the heart of the business. Every expedition travels with two guides: a lead guide with more than twenty years of Wet Tropics field experience, and a host who plans the route, drives the country and looks after everyone in it. Expeditions are arranged by conversation and shaped around each party, from rainforest to dry savannah country, with premium accommodation selected for comfort and proximity to the birds. Day tours explore the Atherton Tablelands, Daintree lowlands and Cairns coast in a small private group. Flexible starts, real-time routing based on conditions, and a sit-down lunch built into the day. Guests travel in a top of the range hybrid with a purpose-fitted trailer, and bird through Swarovski optics supplied on every tour. The approach is abundance over targets: experiencing the richness of the region rather than racing a checklist. Tours suit dedicated birders and travellers who simply love wildlife. Every itinerary is private, unhurried and led by what the day delivers rather than a fixed timetable.
