About Hiros Cave and The Tubes

The eastern side of Lady Elliot Island is not always dived as it is more exposed to the weather, but this part of the island has some lovely dive sites. A feature of this part of the fringing reef is a wall that drops from 14 metres to 22 metres. This wall is undercut with ledges and caves, and two of the best dive sites here are Hiros Cave and The Tubes. As drifting diving is popular these two dive sites are often done on the one dive. Drifting along the wall divers will encounter turtles, reef sharks, gropers, stingrays, eagle rays and schooling fish. Always keep an eye out to the blue as manta rays and silvertip sharks patrol this area. Sprouting from the wall are pretty gorgonians and soft corals. Poke your head into every cave as these provide a home to crayfish, barramundi cod and coral trout.
