About Charleville SES Shed - Flood Display
The Charleville SES is the primary response group for the whole of the Murweh Shire. The group consists of 20 active and 16 reserve members - all locals who have volunteered to help their communities when they need them most. The Charleville SES train on a fortnightly basis and new volunteers are always welcome. 1990 was a year of flooding in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. Rivers around Brisbane and Logan also recorded major flooding. However, this region of S.W. Queensland was particularly badly impacted as two extremely strong weather troughs produced heavy rain in the catchment over March and April. This resulted in the largest recorded flood in the region since early settlers came to this area in 1877. The Flood Marker project serves to tell the story of the people of 1990, many of whom are still here and remember it vividly. These markers showcase the resilience and strength of this community to deal with, adapt, and move forward after a disaster that almost wiped out the community. However, 1990 while the largest flood at 8.54m was not the first or last time the Warrego River flooded.
